New York State Department of Transportation’s Route 1 Bridge over the Mamaroneck River

Route 1 Bridge SMALL PNG

UPDATE as of 05/29/2024 at 8:33PM: Halmar International has informed the Village of Mamaroneck that they are preparing for the final road restoration work on the New York State Department of Transportation’s Route 1 Bridge project over the Mamaroneck River.

Halmar International will replace a full depth of 22-inches of the roadbed. This will require closing half the road at a time for approximately two weeks and reducing traffic to a single lane in each direction. Concrete barriers will be set up along the middle of the road beginning Friday, May 31, 2024, with an anticipated reopening of the full roadway on Friday, June 14.

Following this work, Halmar will require two consecutive night shifts to mill and pave the full project. This portion of the work will include the whole bridge and intersection with Mamaroneck Avenue and down into the Harbor Island Park entrance for approximately 30 linear feet.

The New York State Department of Transportation will often share updates about their construction work on the Route 1 Bridge over the Mamaroneck River. As soon as we receive them, these updates are posted to this page on the Village's website. We thank you for your patience during this necessary construction work. Village of Mamaroneck Tree Law

Tree Law Graphic 01 SMALL PNG

Trees help sustain an ecological system that provides climatic advantages to people and wildlife alike: cooling the air, buffering the wind and providing a natural barrier to noise. Conserving these natural assets was the impetus behind a decision by the Village of Mamaroneck's Board of Trustees (with support from the Tree Committee) to vote on and enact a new tree law. On October 12, 2021, the Village passed a local law making property owners in the village responsible for the maintenance of trees on their property, including their removal. The penalty for failing to follow this law is a fine of $1,050 or more. The law is intended to preserve our trees, which provide numerous benefits, including the reduction of air pollution, increase to the tree canopy, and the improvement of the drainage and maintenance of a healthy eco-system. Studies show that a minimum tree canopy cover of 40% is the threshold needed to reap the full benefits of trees. A goal of the Board of Trustees, supported by the Tree Committee, is to achieve this minimum tree canopy coverage and maintain it on an ongoing basis. The Tree Committee as well as the Building Department has put together the following resources to help educate and inform residents about our Village's Tree Law.
