Village of Mamaroneck News & Events

Village Meetings and Events from March 13 to March 20

Meeting Calendar

What's happening to online meetings?

As of Wednesday, March 2, New York State lifted the mask mandate in schools. Given this announcement, we believe it is unlikely the Governor will extend the Executive Order allowing local governments to meet online past Wednesday, March 16. Therefore, after Wednesday, March 16th, we anticipate in-person Village Meetings will resume at either the Conference Room at Village Hall at the Regatta (123 Mamaroneck Avenue) or the Village Courtroom at 169 Mt. Pleasant Avenue. As we approach March 16, please refer to the Village’s online calendar to check the exact meeting date and location for any of our Boards, Commissions, or Committees.

Other Village Calendars:

Daylight Saving Time Begins on Sunday, March 13

Before you go to bed on Saturday night, turn your clocks ahead 1-hour. This is also a good time to test your smoke alarms and change replaceable batteries, if needed.

The Police Department has also partnered with Nixle Engage, a community engagement tool that allows the VMPD to advise residents of important notifications quickly and easily. Residents can download the app, sign up, and receive push notifications to their cellphones. The notifications are sent to a resident via the app and would pop up as a banner across their phone screen, similar to receiving a text, Facebook message, or any other notification from an app on a smart phone. Community Gardens

Community Gardens

Community Gardens are beneficial to the environment, provide health and well-being for volunteer gardeners, and offer a great way to meet neighbors. The Village of Mamaroneck is fortunate to own a Community Garden site that is situated between the Sheldrake River (to the south), I-95 (to the north), Fenimore Road (to the west), and the corner of Grand Street and Plaza Avenue (to the east). Renee Crabtree, a member of the Village’s Committee for the Environment (CFTE), is the contact person for the Community Garden. Of the 12 garden plots (each one measuring approximately 30 square feet), six are currently available for development. Village of Mamaroneck residents can develop, maintain, and cultivate their own plot while also fostering a genuine sense of community. While each garden plot is free, registration is required on a first-come, first-serve basis. Priority and preference for plot allocation will be given to returning gardeners and Village of Mamaroneck residents until Friday, April 8, 2022. (After April 8, 2022, garden plots will be given to non-Village of Mamaroneck residents.) If you are interested in developing a Community Garden plot, please contact Renee Crabtree at rcrabtree@vomny.net. For more information, click here.

Five Towns: One Book

Bringing our communities together for an important conversation around THE SUM OF US by Heather McGhee

Five Towns One Book JPG

In addition to a March 27 conversation with author Heather McGhee about her book THE SUM OF US, numerous additional events at local libraries (with virtural options) are happening. Visit www.learnwithcure.com/events for more information.

Heather McGhee's book, a New York Times beststeller and long listed for the National Book Award, offers a powerful exploration of inequality and the lesson that generations of Americans have failed to learn: Racism has a cost for everyone—not just for people of color. McGhee embarks on a deeply personal journey across the country from Maine to Mississippi to California, tallying what we lose when we buy into the zero-sum paradigm.

Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy is one of the many Community Partners supporting this event.
