Leaf Blower Law Reminder

The Village of Mamaroneck reminds residents, landscapers, and property owners that the Village’s leaf blower law remains in effect and will be enforced.

On October 23, 2023, the Board of Trustees adopted Local Law No. 18-2023, amending Village Code § 254-3R regarding leaf blower use. Under this law, gas-powered leaf blowers are prohibited year-round in the Village of Mamaroneck.

In addition, all leaf blowers, including both gas-powered and electric leaf blowers, are prohibited from May 15 through September 30 each year.

Violations of the leaf blower law may result in the issuance of a summons when observed by law enforcement officers.

Under Village Code § 254-3R:

  • Gas-powered leaf blowers are prohibited year-round.
  • Electric leaf blowers may only be used from October 1 through May 14.
  • No leaf blowers may be used from May 15 through September 30.
  • Leaf blowers are also prohibited on Sundays and on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • On days when leaf blowers are permitted, they may only be operated:
    • Weekdays: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    • Saturdays: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Only one leaf blower may be operated at a time on properties of 5,000 square feet or less.
  • No more than three leaf blowers may be operated at any time on any property.

Please note that leaf blower violations are enforced through direct visual observation by officers and code enforcement officials.

If a summons is issued, a contact card will be left for the homeowner. When the homeowner contacts the Police Department, they will be advised about the summons, the applicable Village Code requirements, and that future violations may also result in enforcement action.

The Village appreciates the cooperation of residents and contractors in helping reduce noise, support environmental health, and preserve quality of life in the community.
